Hijacking the Bandwagon

Okay, everyone put their hands up and step away from the book. Yes, THE book (or books if you are already completely brainwashed). Maybe I am just being a bad sport because stupid Jay over at Halftime Lessons snubbed my Debbie Meyer Green Bags (who can resist reusable AND made in the USA?) for that silly little book, or maybe I'm feeling left out and my feelings are hurt. Besides, I am way too cutting edge... I can't start reading it now! That would be like walking into the salon and asking for the "Rachel".

So, regardless of my questionable motives, I'm declaring my blog a Twilight-Free zone. I realize I may lose some friends over this, but I feel the need to take an official stand. Call it my platform, if you will.

I'm not saying you can't continue to swoon and gush elsewhere, just leave it at the door. And for those few of you that choose to stay, let me offer you an alternative.

Immortality? Check. Mythology? Check. Time travel? Check. All this, and more! This book is not for the faint-hearted, I'll warn you now. Jitterbug Perfume, by Tom Robbins, is raunchy and irreverent. It questions organized religion and societal norms. But more than this, it is a love story. A wonderful, smart, funny love story. If I were to ever actually be invited to join a Book Club (I'm not holding my breath...my neighbors can't stand me), this would be my number one choice (or maybe Irving's Hotel New Hampshire, but that's another post). I have read this book probably 15 times, and I love it more today than the first time I picked it up 20 years ago.

Maybe I'll start my own rogue book club, with me as the President, CEO and sole member. Watch out, Oprah.

I honestly make it a point to avoid Oprah-endorsed books (read my profile). She totally jumped the shark with me when she spotlighted "The Secret."

I'll have to check this out - sounds right up my alley.

I'm feeling all sorts of controversial today!

I'm with you on this one...I havent read their brainwashing book either. I just dont like vampires, lol. But if I find your book cheap on half.com, I might give it a shot and see if I want to join your book club (only, if you WANT me) LOL

Deb, there's a reason I am giving away the book. Read my profile statement a little closer, and you will realize my feelings for the series.

I'll take Tom Robbins any day.

I still like you, but I still like The Book(s) and I just started reading them a week ago. No brainwashing. It's just fun that I can share with my teens, which is especially neat. Your book sounds good-- I will put it on my list. See, I have a HUGE list of books I love and actually only one has series has vampires.

By the way, I can't believe your neighbors hate you. That's just wrong:)

I tried to read the book & didn't like it. Utterly failed to interest me but I've always preferred the Anne Rice sort of vampire.

Have you read any Jasper Fforde? His Thursday Next series is awesome

Where to start? I loooooove the Twilight Series. Have been "brainwashed" five times over. But, I respect your wishes. I still like you, everyone's opinions to their own. Right? Except... I may DM you about something else. ;)

Twilight free...tee hee. One of my daughters LOVED it, the other REFUSES to read it, because she hates bandwagons.

I DID miss this?

I fall under teh category of LOVED the first one, but after the second and third was all? Just KILL her off already?! Didn't read the last one and expect a full account on GNO.

I read part of a tom Robbins book once...WEIRD! but I'll take your suggestion and head to the library...

(Cuz I have soooo much time!)

Ok..... so I just found my way over here. I'm a little late... story of my life.

Anyway....

I've decided to keep coming back for no other reason than your stance against The Books.

I think I might really start to like you. :)

We are so tight, sista!

The post where I came out as a twilight hater was one of my most popular.

BTW, I'll take your lazy teen if you want mine;)

Stumbled on your blog, but I knew that I would love it when you posted Jitterbug Perfume! One of my all time favorites! And yes, I first read it about 20 years ago, and try and read it every year or two. Maybe we should just join our own mini cyber book club?
