Island Treasures

Maui really is the paradise everyone says it is. Gorgeous, lush, happy. We had our most memorable family vacation there, snorkeling with ancient turtles, sunning ourselves on deserted beaches, and watching the spectacular whales flip, flop, jump and roll. Truly magical experiences... But those are not the centerpiece of today's Photo Story.

We participated in the obligatory luau one evening. We probably could have dug around and found something a little more authentic, but we stumbled upon one that promised live music, fire dancing, and FOOD... All the kid-pleasing basics. They started out the evening with a traditional island blessing that my little one took to heart:

Luckily, the food was served right away, and my boys were in HEAVEN. They made a couple of trips through the buffet and did some serious chowing down, as evidenced by the photo below:

Well, the music had barely begun to play, when I looked over and saw this:

Mind you, he was sitting in the front row, with flaming torches, banging drums and scantily clad women right overhead.

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, as this is the kid that ate a HUGE steak dinner in NYC, then proceeded to sleep through the entire performance of The Lion King (guess those Orchestra seats were plenty comfortable).

So it was back to the beach the next morning, for more clear water, colorful fish, and pristine coral... All of which, I am happy to say, he was awake to witness!

As always, this entrancing tale was made possible by MamaGeek and Cecily, the goddesses who created this mind-expanding exercise we fondly refer to as... Photo Story Friday.

Oh, and I'm on Twitter now. It sort of scares me, but I'm following you!

Wow - he looks like one contented little boy! Beautiful pictures. I hope to make it there someday. :)

My 3 year old slept all the way through the Shamu show. We waited all day for that night show because we heard it was much better. And she was asleep. I myself couldn't sleep the whole plane ride to Maui-8 hours of staring at my snoring husband.

Those pictures are great! I love him sleeping!!

If you think Maui is pretty you should go to the Big Island. That place was AWESOME! (Maui was, too, but the BI stole my heart, and not just because we got engaged there.)

I wish I could sleep like that! He's still in his baby stage :)

LOL that is AWESOME.
I love your blogging, mostly because I love your boys...the sense of humor in your family slays me...and if you can suppress the frustration, I am sure they crack your crack up constantly...
Hilarious...

What is it that's coursing through my veins right now? Oh yeah, it's jealousy.

Wow, Maui looks great and sounds so fun! My kids usually tend to sleep through the most exciting and loud events too. Great PSF!

Oh man, it would be great to be able to sleep through all that!!! Of course, with winter well on the way and the days getting shorter and shorter, my hibernation instinct is kicking in ~ I don't expect to be fully awake until April.

stefanie said...

Beautiful.

He's gonna regret missing the dancing girls someday.

angie said...

HILARIOUS! I'll bet the performers got a kick out of their number one fan. he he. :) Just think what he'll be able to sleep through when he's 80.

Your vacation sounds magical.

Wow. How amazing that he can sleep anywhere like that. Sounds like a dream vacation.

Lovin' these pics. I want to go on a vaca now. And, wish I could sleep anywhere :).

One more thing... totally off topic... GNO has to have opposing view points. You are so invited and welcome on Tuesday. In fact, we'd be sad if you didn't show. One thing to know is that Carissa and I didn't create the Twilight theme necessarily because we adore the series. We created it because it is all the rage and fits in with Halloween. But again, we need those opposing views to breathe energy into the conversation. So... come on over, join the group, and either be swayed or share your true feelings about it. :)

One more comment... did you sign up using Mr. Linky on the new GNO site at http://mommygossip-gno.blogspot.com? Since this is travel related, you should go and sign up there for a chance to be one of the featured gno gals. You'll see the post three down or so.

Just a thought...

Great story! My hubby and your son must come from the same mold...after a steak dinner my hubby fell asleep at the BROADWAY (as in NYC) production of The Phantom of the Opera. He twitched so hard he bumped the person next to him!
