Tuesday's Tribute: I Heart the DMV!

author's note
: Below is my attempt to corral some good karma. This is Plan A. Plan B will involve me going on the lamb and assuming a new identity. Don't worry, I'll be in touch...

Don't you just love the DMV? It is so obvious that their HR department hand picks each employee based on his sunny disposition, knowledge of state law, and people skills. In fact, I have so much fun there, I don't mind the occasional long wait (which always seems to just fly by). I really love it when I am told, despite being previously told otherwise, that I will need my great-grandmother's cousin's original social security card, causing me countless hours of searching and a return trip (yay!). It's just icing on the cake when I do finally return with the document in question, only to be told I never needed it in the first place! Co-workers contradicting each other rocks, especially when I am short on time and have a moody kid (or two) with me. If you haven't had the privilege of visiting the DMV lately, you don't know what you're missing!

PS: Did I mention that I have been driving around on an expired license since May and Moody Teen is due to get his learner's permit in two weeks? I have a feeling I may be darkening their door soon.

You do know it's Monday, right?

Holy shit!! How long have I been at this computer?! Is it Tuesday already?

Our DMV underwent a facelift about a year ago and I mean complete overhaul. It now truly IS a pleasure to go there. I wish I could go tomorrow just to visit. Ok, not really, but you get the picture.

The DMV is awesome. It's right up there with the post office. I think they hire from the same employee pool.

Yeah... my DMV office is closed. Which means I have to drive like 5 towns over to visit. Apparently the DMV here in town wasn't safe to enter. Nice, right??

That's not to mention the fact that since Arnold CrapActor screwed California so bad that our DMV offices are closed the first and third Friday's of each month. You know, to help with that $42 billion deficit that we're facing. I hear we'll be bankrupt in a few days... Maybe I'll tribute his stupid ass. And use more cussing, for your benefit. ;)

And why are they always so dirty feeling?? It's disgusting. I've been driving around with an AZ license even though it's illegal to go more than 10 days without switching to a CA one...Whatever!!! My license doesn't expire until like 2050!

That's a long enough rant. :) Nice tribute. :)

The DMV is truly like heaven on earth... with all those friendly angels just waiting to help you with a smile, wings -a -flappin'. It smells like freshly baked cookies. And when the crazy lunatic sitting nexts to you lets one rip, it plays the tune "ava maria".

There, that should get ya some Karma.

ROFL I am forwarding this to my husband. This week he went to the Dept. Of Revenue and they must have the same philosophy on hiring only the most qualified people. The lady "helping" him LOST his driver's license. And because he DRIVES for a living he had to roll on over to the DMV (twice) to get a new one. Oh yeah - and pay for it. Uh huh. Too funny.

Oh girl, I start sweating just thinking about the DMV. =)

The women all there have to pass the "are you bitchy enough" test. We got the top grads in ours. I am crying in every DL picture because they make me so emotional.

That's hilarious! I've always wondered about that place. It scares me...

Okay I am so heading down to the DMV for a party tomorrow...you made it sound so enticing!

I once went to the DMV in San Francisco California. That is a postable story. Talk about customer service~!

Debbie said...

Oh, the DMV. I really would like to work there. Where else can you get paid to do nothing?

I just love the utilitarian look of the place— a hearken back to the 50's or something. I think I got spoiled when they opened up mini-DMV places where you can do simple things like get your license renewed (if you don't have to take the drivers exam)

My tribute today is on following and it includes you Deb (yea)!

I feel your pain...well, kind of...I don't have to renew my license until 2035! (It's an Arizona thing...)

We make an appearance every 4 years. That's often enough for this chickie.

I just spent some quality time there this September. Joy to the World.

I myself have always been a HUGE fan of the DMV. In fact, I think I'm going to suggest to my husband that we have our next date night there. It's just more fun than a barrel of monkeys every time you go there!

LOVE this - I once drove on an expired license for 15 month sand didn't know it! Now I just renew through the mail!!

Lindsay said...

Thank goodness for internet license renewals! I dread the time when I have to get a new picture (so I won't be 40 with the same pic when I was 23) and have to actually GO there....

The employees are quite lovely and educated. I especially enjoy watching others like myself squirm (when talking with the oh so esteemed workers), as they are being looked down upon for not showing proper ID or other forms of "First born" documentations.
I heart just making it out to my car without feeling emotionally accosted...giggle

This DMV tribute has me wanting to head out there right now..wait I may get pulled over for having my tabs expired for 6 months now..Crap!...oh well maybe another day...

You've been driving with an expired license since MAY? MAY? MAY? :)

I think they hand pick their employees, and they must have a national class on picking the winners. :)

I had to spend my morning at the DMV a few weeks ago. Good times.

Courtnie said...

Oh yeah! I get to go there soon. We moved and I haven't changed my license yet. Did I mention that we moved almost 6 months ago?

Very good Deb, spoken like a true smart ass.

When you go on the lamb, take me with you?!?!?

Yes, the DMV is stupid. And apparently so am I.

I linked up for the first time, and I was so totally confused. I hope you didn't see my post because it didn't mention your blog, only halftime lessons (until I just added it) and I made you and Jay sound married (until I just fixed that).

That's because I'm new to halftime lessons (and now new here) and I thought that the lady in the picture with Jay was "Deb." Ugh, I was so confused. Now I get it. And I fixed my post. Only like 70 people saw it the other way. (slinks away sheepishly)

I have to start taking Prozac a week before going there just to get me through it.
I'm just worried that the next time I go to renew it they won't give it back for some reason. You know I don't pass they eye test or something.
Then there is that "Professional" photgraph they take to put on there. Almost as good as my passport photo. Why don't they let us supply our own?
I am so glad I only have to visit this place once every 8 years. More often than that and I probably would have a breakdown.

I HAVE been to the DMV recently...and the experience was breathtaking.

Isn't is special that the DMV is the same everywhere? They offer us consistancy-we never worry that one office will be different than the others. No, they are the same. I'll bet in the year 4000 they will STILL be the same. Just saying...

I heart this post!

The DMV in our town is a great place to people watch. Oh, one of the big wigs has a daughter at my school. He moves us up to the front of the line. Don't hate. It really can be about who you know. And there really aren't that many perks in education.

Joy said...

Oh girl you are worse than me and that makes me feel good!

I was driving on my expired one since turning the big 30 in October! I finally went the first week of January-It was HELL I had to sit there for about 2hrs, 2hrs I will NEVER get back.

Oh and they charged me $5 extra since it was expired.

This is a great idea and a shame that I found it on a WEDNESDAY!!! I hope it applies to EVERY Tuesday.

Ah, the DMV! So many memories!
The DMV ranks up there with a Pap Spear!

Did you go yet? The last time I went, mine was about to expire, we were about to go on a month long road trip, and there was a thunderstorm brewing outside the plate glass windows. I was praying the electricity would please stay on for a few more minutes so they could get the license printed. And you know how fast they get things done. The storm had blown through by the time I left.
