Tuesday's Tribute: Say "Cheeeeeeese!"

I try not to overdo it too often about my cooking expertise, because it's not my job to make you feel inadequate and bad about yourselves. However, I must take this Tuesday to rave about one of my favorite foods... Sliced cheese. Or I guess, to be more precise, processed American cheese food (See? It is a food. It says so on the wrapper).

Again, I hate to rub it in, but I make an amazing grilled cheese (food?) sandwich. And if I'm feeling extra nice, I may offer a side of canned tomato soup to my growing boys (I love spoiling them). They adore my grilled cheese (food?) sandwiches, and whenever my husband offers to make them, they shout out, "NO! You don't know how... Mom makes them better!" What can I say?

I feel hesitant sharing this next part with you, but since we are on the subject... Sometimes, when I have the whole afternoon to plan and prepare, I will make them my signature international dish, grilled cheese (food?) quesadillas! Don't hate me because I'm the kind of mom that always thinks ahead and has fancy food like tortillas on hand.

Come join the fun... It can only get better from here! Link up and share your tribute.

My kids love grilled cheese (or girl cheese as they used to call it..) but when I tried it as a quesadilla, they rebelled. There is no accounting for taste. :-)

LOL!! My husband gets the same response when he offers to make grilled cheese sandwiches for my two. "No! Let mom make them! She makes them better!"

My littlest calls cheese quesadillas "mexican pizza." I am weening us off processed cheese slices and onto the real thing. Oddly, they haven't noticed and I thought they would! I am trying to eliminate some of the processed foods we eat. Not all, just some, though all would be nice (and nearly impossible for us!).

LOL! My princess is actually the master of grilled cheese sandwiches in our home. She even gets fancy with it and adds a slice of tomato.

I have to say, I do sort of hate you after this post.

Cheese Gromit. I love cheese as well. I guess I'm not much of an American since I don't really like American cheese. My mom used to make grilled cheese sandwiches with Munster cheese and I called it "Monster" cheese.

I love grilled cheese sandwiches and tomatoe soup or (and don't wrinkle up your nose and go EWWW until you try it) grilled cheese and a banana sliced in half with miracle whip spread on it. Yummy!

My kids say 'girl cheese' too. My youngest calls American cheese- orange cheese- makes it THAT much more appetizing!

We're big fans of cheese around here too, although we're snooty and have to have the Tillamook slices. ;)

Now I feel more inadequate to you than ever before. You are a wicked cruel woman to rub in your skills like this.

Grilled cheeses are awesome. I've heard you can put a slice of tomato on it to make it healthier...but why ruin a good thing?!

You are gourmet. You would be my FIL's dream wife. He eats a grilled cheese sandwich every night for dinner and his wife of 30 something years STILL cannot make a decent one! :)

There is nothing better than a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup! My son (12) gave me a panini maker for Christmas...my grilled cheese has risen to a whole new level!

Nope that would be my mother - and she's way better at it than you.

The key is in the butter. I bet you load them up before you slap them down. It's calcium, baby!

We had soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner last night. Love them. Sometimes I throw a slice of ham in on the cheese too.

You are my Hero! Gotta love a good grilled cheese food sandwich! You need to add some chicken with hormones to round it out!

You remind me of why I married a chef. My children will now not starve to death.

Oh my goodness...now we might have to have grilled cheese. It's one of my all-time favorites, and I find it interesting how no two people can make simple bread, butter and cheese taste the same. It really is different depending on the cook.

I'm pretty dang good at grilled cheese too. Hey, I remember when my brother stayed with me many years ago, and I found out he was buttering his bread AND putting a bunch of butter in the pan-- ewwwww...it was greasy grilled cheese. See, we moms have it down. We KNOW our grilled cheese. I like putting ham in mine too-- bold I know:)

Nothing says "haute cuisine" like plastic-wrapped cheese! Love the international version. Perhaps you should try putting it on some pizza dough and call it Italian Grilled Cheese! When are you getting your Food Network show? : )

I'm right there with you!
Here's my semi-slacker recipe for grilled cheese: toast the bread in the toaster, add the cheese, microwave for 10-15 seconds.

very funny and my kid will NOT eat grilled cheese - how un-american of them!

My hubs hates making grilled cheese (food? lol) sandwiches and hates tomato soup all together - but whenever I'm sick he loves me enough to make both! lol I Love them!!!! I'm jealous of your skill. ;)

Wow! Grilled cheese (food) sandwiches with the occassional tomato soup?!?!
Watch out Betty Crocker. There's a new chef in town.

You made me crave grilled cheese.. gonna go make one for lunch!! I'm putting pepperoni in mine!! nummy!

I feel like my grilled cheese might rival yours Deb. After all, it IS the only thing I know how to make, so I have pretty much perfected it...

You are so friggin' fantastic that I'm going to tell you about MY toasted cheese. We don't call them GRILLED cheese in the hills.

Melt enough REAL butter to coat both sides of two pieces of bread. I SAID BOTH SIDES!!! IN AND OUT!!!

Plop the cheese inside, and toast in a skillet until nice and CRISPY!! Margarine is mostly water and oil, so the bread is always too soggy to crisp up correctly.

I love anything with cheese, including a Mr. Linky. Thanks much!

I grew up 1 hour from the border of Wisconsin so any comment, utter or word about cheese gets my attention!!
I have 5-6 kinds in my refrigerator at all times. Surely this is the reason my waist is bigger than my hips, haha
Anyway.. try muenster or better yet just a little Gruyere cheese on those grill cheese sandwiches for a treat. It will knock your socks off :)
