What Lies Beneath

So this was supposed to be a loving tribute to my sweet boy who turns 12 today. However, when I went up to his room, perhaps to glean some inspiration, my hand was forced in a slightly different direction.

On the surface, things seem above average. Clean room, made bed, clutter-free desk. Well, not so fast. Take a look-see at what I found...

"Yawn," you say. "A messy closet. Been there, done that," Right? WRONG! Take a closer look. Here, I'll help (reminder: he's 12)...

A table of contents of the highlights, if you will:

1) Care Bear
2) an assault rifle (ok, it's really an airsoft gun made to look like one, but still...)
3) Moo (blanket with sheep on it, misguidedly named, obviously)
4) authentic WWII combat helmet
5) Littlest Pet Shop, with lil' kitty and grooming tools (this is where my jaw dropped)
6) his "dressy clothes": a lone navy blazer that is probably 3 sizes too small
7) a fencing glove
8) real machine gun bullets (nice)
9) his temperpedic pillow that he insists gives him good dreams

But I guess when you consider the source of this disaster, it's really no surprise...

Happy Birthday, Mr. Bean! I love you, my precious maniac! And for your birthday, since you obviously already have everything a boy could possibly want, you may choose ONE (I don't want to overindulge) of the following:

1) deposit down on a padded cell
2) straight jacket
3) electro-shock therapy

Oh, and you're grounded.

And God bless Cecily and MamaGeek for this fun tradition, and for putting up with me every week! Love those gals!

That was AWESOME! I think he's just having an identity crisis. I'm sure it will be all guns soon. It something about the "Y" chromosome.

Happy Birthday to the owner of the most fascinating closet I have ever seen.

I'm not sure whether this makes me worry less or more about the fact that my 3 year old boy loves to watch Strawberry Shortcake DVDs with his big sister....

My mother says every girl is 6 going on 16, every boy is 16 going on 6 - hence the Care Bear and Littlest Pet Chop.

I can't help you with the real machine gun bullets.

Sure you don't live in Texas?

Happy, Happy Birthday Mr. Bean!

You're son is practically a neat freak! To appreciate just how neat and orderly he is, just look at this video of my 12-year-old daughter's room:

Note, it's on her blog. She's messy & proud of it!

That is great! My kids go to great lengths to hide things and try and get out of putting them where they belong!

Grounded for his birthday? That's so not fair - did you hear my whine? ;) Love the hair!

That is pretty tame compared to my "Tornado" little 5yr old Jordan who every room he goes into he leaves an absolute crazy nuts mess.

The machine gun bullets are probably the explanation for the littlest pet shop and the care bear.

With 4 boys, I'm just talking from experience here!

He's a keeper- Happy Birthday to him!

That was too funny!!! Keep telling him he is the luckiest kid in the world to have you for a mom, because I know you already do. Happy birthday to him!! And don't forget to throw in a couple of birthing stories to make him feel a litle guilty...it's the gift that keeps on giving.

So is this what I have to look foward to in about 6 years? Unfortunatly for mine he has no closet doors so there is no hidding it in there hence the under the bed "storage" for his junk.

Oh and the air assault-they really do look like the real thing, a friend of ours has one and my son LOVED shooting it one day while we were over at his house, I wanted to take pictures but didn't for fear someone would see it and think it was the real thing!

Ha! Love the hair do. BTW, just be glad you didn't find porn stashed in his closet. It could always be worse, right?

Happy birthday to your baby! ;)

Well... uhm... I'm not sure where to start. My first thought? I'm scared. I've got two boys, myself. It was not that long ago that I was 12 (yipes) and I cannot even begin to THINK what I'll find in their closets when they are 12. OMG.

Anyway, a huge happy birthday to your boy, and happy and healthy wishes sent his (and your whole families) way. ~hug~ for the birthday wonders, and an extra ~hug~ for the support of the craziness that comes with being a mother! :)

Littlest Pet Shop?!?
You just never know.

Oh man, that could be my sons closet! I now know that if something is missing of mine or their sisters that they have it in their room. I have NO idea how that happens. It's like they blindly pick up stuff when I beg for them to help me clean and scoop up ANYTHING in their path and hide it. Happy Birthday to your kiddo:)

Ummm, by the way, if he doesn't choose the deposit on the padded cell, I'll take it.

Haha, I love that. "Oh, and you're grounded." Really made me laugh. :)

A very happy birthday to your very normal son, though he may not forgive you in a very few years for sharing his care bear with the world.
