Teen Talk 3: Work It

So today we explore what I think may possibly be the one thing that has saved Moody Teen from boarding school... The summer job. All I can say is, in the words of the late, and somewhat heavily made up, Tammy Faye Baker, "Praise the LORD!"

Things are looking up around here. Oh, and don't fret... An exciting update to the Great Nail Polish Coup of '09 is in the works. Now go enjoy your day!

PS: It is boded, after all.

As you may know,I am a big fan of child labor laws. I think that 6 year-olds should be working at McDonalds, quite frankly.

Congrats to your son and his awesome lifeguarding skills!

*GASP*

Tammy Faye is dead?!?! Shut your mouth! (*crawls out from under rock*)

Oh yeah, and I'm all for sweat shops. If it's good enough for Kathie Lee...

Amen! We started our little people with paper route at 7. Granted we got up, folded all the papers, warmed up the car, made some hot cocoa, carried them to the car, and pleaded with them to run papers up to the houses, but, nevermind bad example.

Even better than a job is forced volunteer work, aka, community service. My oldest spent the summer at the Aviary cleaning bird cages. Priceless!

I'm a firm believer in child labour, if they are not at school or studying, get them working...

seriously thoguh, mine have always had to do chores to earn their stuff, nothing is free, the earlier they learn that the better...

You're so good at these videos. I think I would just clam up and then just giggle. Such a nerd.

And way to go, Moody Teen. Working is good. I did it all through high school and had the best experiences. Good stuff.

May I call you adorable, again?

You're adorable.

And Moody Teen rocks.

Question for the life guard, if you happen to see him: do they still twirl the whistle cord around their finger while wearing sun glasses and looking, in general, like serious bad a$$es?

If so, I can see why he digs the gig - the girls are probably swarming his station.

Congratulations on gainful employment!!

I love Teen Talk!

I have been trying to get my lazy teen to get a J.O.B for over a year. He got tired of listening and moved to his Dads. Now THEY get to nag him about getting a job, lmao.

Let's hear it for the summer jobs! And it sounds like Moody Teen has some mad lifeguarding talents. How cool!

BTW, Tammy Faye died? Sheesh, I've got to get updated on current events.

You're so adorable Deb.

And lifeguarding is totally the job that all the cute boys have. What a stud Moody Teen is! =)

Ha! I just realized that Em and I said basically the same thing. Oh well, there are few people I'd rather be just like! =)

That....HAIR....just.....gets.....bettah.....and....BETTAH! Love it.

Moody Teen rocks. And I just love how we can't wait to have these babies and then once they're about 2 or 3, we spend the next 15 or 16 years figuring out how to ditch them. :)

I also didn't know TF is dead! Darn it.

Child work laws are outdated... time to get those kids out and working sun up to sun down!

I have so missed your videos, Deb - it was so fun to see you again! Good for him for getting a job, and one that he likes, at that - woo hoo! And, I couldn't quite tell from the expressions on your face or the tone of your voice, but it seems like you might just be pretty darn happy about this yourself. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, though. :)

One of my boys became a life guard at one of the hotels in Vegas, and it turned into a supervisor position for a few years. They paid them pretty good.
I think it's great that teenagers can get a job and learn some responsibilty. Yeah!!!

BAHAHAHAHAHAH My husband schedules are camping trips so there is one in June, July and August. I'm not sure how the boys are suppose to get a job and it angers me:) I want them to have their own money!

it is so reassuring to know that someone else likes it when their kid isn't around;)

fingers crossed that he takes to this job.

p.s. plus, it's good to have somebody nearby who knows first aid if you ever choke on a grape or something.

p.s. loved your video...it would totally freak me out to see myself talking on tape. i kind of have a man voice.

I feel kinda bad now, but I sent my daughter into labor camps the second she started talking about driving. I said "If YOU can pay for the gas and the insurance, we'll see". Gee. MY mom and MY dad paid for MY gas and insurance....but I sent her into the coal mines anyway.

p.s. PLEEEEEZE tell me how you can upload your videos. Mine take 12 hours on Youtube.

Dude. I'm loving the Teen Talk and the idea wheels are turning as always. I love love love your little sign off - "Until next time, I'll see you online!" And your delivery is impeccable.

Every time I watch these I keep thinking what it will be like to see you talk IN REAL LIFE and even like FIRST THING IN THE MORNING when we are sharing a room.....wow. A little over a month away...really?

Happy weekend chica!

You are just too darn cute on that video!!! I would make an ass out of myself.. as usual. Good luck to him with his summer job!!

Like you, I never worked until I graduated, but my daughter got sent to the coal mines at age 17 and has been working ever since and she's now 39. I wonder where I went wrong? No drugs. No teen pregnancy. No skinhead boyfriends with piercings. Come on. I had to go wrong somewhere!

Oh yeah! I feel guilty for making her work when I never did. I knew I'd find a reason to feel guilty if I looked hard enough. Now I feel better.

nothing wrong with a good work ethic!! keeps of the streets and out of trouble!! get 'em started early, then they won't go into shock when they have to get a J-O-B as an adult!! ;)
