Teen Talk: Survivors' Stories

So here we are... alive. A little brain-dead, but alive. Since I have apparently lost the ability to write, I thought I'd break out the camera. I was lucky enough to score an exclusive interview with a couple of survivors of the Mommy Wars. Keep in mind I had only one take, as they were threatening to unionize.

I have been more than a little fixated on all of the angst over the standard, kid-raising fare, that always seems to result in finger-pointing, judging, and general mommy self-righteousness. Breast v Bottle, Cloth v Disposable... you know what I mean. I just don't get it, but maybe I am too far removed. But then I think, maybe it does matter, and I am simply justifying my own actions. That's when I decided to find out from those whose little lives had been molded by my decisions...  for better or for worse.

The verdict? Well, although it appears on video that I really screwed up, since my boys can barely string two words together, the truth is they are awesome, and they made it. They are funny, they are kind(ish), they are not in jail (yet), and they brush their teeth. What more could a regular ol' non-green, reluctant breastfeeder, epidural-loving, tv-watching advocate mother ask for?

Great video!

I was surprised at the beginning that your teen boys didn't flinch at the word breast.

Your boys seem like well adjusted teens.

Good job mama.

Love this!!!

I hope you do this on a regular basis... or at least as regular a basis as the boys will let you :)

They did a great job! So cute.

LMBO!

Thank goodness you didn't follow suit with your younger son as you did with your older son regarding diapers then and now, breast fed then and NOW?

Yikes!

hee hee Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Awesome video! Can't believe they agreed to do it...did you bribe them or something?

"For what…" way too funny.

It truly appears that they turned out just fine. My wife still frets over if she parented her children well— even if both of them are now over 25 and have children of their own.

I loved this! I can't wait to ask Collin if he thinks he would be better off if I had breast fed him longer! AWESOME!!

You have two very handsome young men! Great job Deb!!

Okay. Your internet legend has been solidified with this video. That is freakin' hilarious. The school shooting line had me almost spitting diet coke out of my nostrils onto the keyboard. ALMOST.

Teen Talk is my very favorite thing you do. DO more. And more appearances from the boys please....
they are too cute.

And let me know how those cloth diapers work out for Grayson....

:-)

Arg! I hate that hubs is asleep next to me so I can't listen!!!!

May I get a transcript?

Forget it. I want to hear your laugh. I'll be back in the a.m....

So, you're telling me to stop being so neurotic over the fact that Youngest still occasionally uses his paci?

No bell towers in his future?

Whew!

This was so worth the wait! Except, hubs now wants to run away with you. He thinks you're hilarious.

I told him to get in line.

Awesome perspective! All those things we worried about when they were little seem minor compared to what we worry about once they hit puberty.

Very enjoyable video - I am surprised your kids put up with you, I guess you raised them well! Haha, I am only joking. Nice to see you all bonding and having a good time. The questions were quite funny too. "Do you have any resentment for me not breast-feeding you?" Hilarious.

ok, how in love am I with you and your sons right now? I laughed out loud especially after you asked them which type of gun they preferred and your son said, 'For what?"

I love you!

I am convinced we were neighbors in a previous life and our boys tormented the others neighbors at will!

How on EARTH did you accomplish that? Did you promise them a sniper rifle if they went along with it? I think you have THE finest boys I've ever seen and your pride is obvious. Seems like you did SOMETHING right somewhere along the way. Have any ideas what it was???

Too f###in hilarious!!! You had me at "cloth diapers" and "math grades"......

Stick with those video games; the "experts" say "capitalize on their assets". Just thought you might appreciate that.

I can't wait for more!!!!!!!!!

I love teen talk! This is a good reminder for me because I have a tendency to over think things. A lot.

I found you from your commnets on another blog and had to come over, since I have 3 kids, all late teens - my youngest is 16. All we can do is our very best with our kids and even at that, we will still second guess ourselves. Your boys seem like good boys and were very sweet to humor mama like that!

Oh, Deb, you are hySTERical, once again! I love that your boys sat with you to do that AND you guys clearly all have fun together, even though they may not admit it! Teeheee!

I've missed you!

Your boys are GOOD kids Deb!

DEB - you are BRILLIANT! You absolutely must find a way to distribute this to all the new mamas who (like I was) are torturing themselves with guilt about all these great debates you discussed. This is so stinking awesome. And your boys are just phenomenal - you are such a stinking AWESOME mom. :)
